She has written Colonel Roosevelt and his wife to come to their concert. She asks Mr. M to write him to and ask him to come. She needs pictures of Mr. M. with his autograph for the Concert. Mrs. Freuauff is giving a dinner in Mr. M's honor for Mr. and Mrs. M to attend.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
